Happy Mothers Day!- Celebrity mothers and their famous offspring

Well I thought considering it has just been Mothers Day I would do a bit of a special blog post about some famous mums and their famous children. Before I get into that I just want to do a very special shout out to my own mum, Maureen Ravia! Even though we argue from time to time you are always there for all of us so thanks for all that you do!

What can I say? There are quite a few famous mother/children teams in Tinseltown so I picked ten of them to include in this special feature. Just a warning this blog post is very photo heavy.

Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson. Photo from: Sheila H.Miller's Pinterest account
Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson could possibly be the hottest mother/daughter team in Hollywood with their blonde hair, blue eyes and infectious smiles. They are both equally talented actresses. As the old saying goes "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree". The tree (aka Goldie Hawn) is still gorgeous, even at 68!

Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith and Jaden Smith. Photo from: Paul Herbert's Flickr photo stream
She may be more famous for being married to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star and rapper, Will Smith but Jada Pinkett-Smith is also a celebrity in her own right, having starred in numerous films including, Scream 2, The Nutty Professor, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions and all of the Madagascar films. Last but definitely not least she is the mother of Jaden and Willow Smith, both of whom are making names for themselves in Hollywood. Needless to say, Willow and Jaden Smith are following in their parents footsteps as they have already had many successful songs and movies. I'm sure neither of these two could be doing what they do without the love and support of their mother. Thumbs up to Jada!

Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers. Photo from: Deborah Ann's Pinterest account
America's favourite funny woman, Joan Rivers is the mother of actress, Melissa Rivers. They currently star together in their own reality television show, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best. Melissa is a mother herself to a 13-year-old son, Edgar Endicot.

Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Photo from: Campari America's Flickr photo stream
I'm pretty sure that this mother/daughter duo need no introduction, right? Unless you're living under a rock (and even then I think there's nowhere to hide from this family, unfortunately!) you've heard of the attention-loving Kim Kardashian and her equally attention-loving mummy, Kris Jenner, that being said though it seems that Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian always seem to have each others back with whatever ups and downs they may go through so we'll give them snaps for that!

Miley Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Photo from: CakeChooser
Long before Miley Cyrus rose to fame as Hannah Montana we knew her as the daughter of country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Tish must have had her hands full with Miley and all her siblings when they were growing up (I'm thinking she must be something like a superwoman!). Even though her daughter is now a superstar Tish and Miley still remain very close. Way to go Tish!

Nicky Hilton, Kathy Hilton and Paris Hilton. Photo from: fanpop!
This is another Hollywood family that we all know. Kathy Hilton is of course married to Hilton hotel heir, Richard Hilton. Her daughters, Paris and Nicky Hilton have obviously become very famous as well. Nicky has her clothing and handbag lines and well, Paris is famous for being...uh, Paris! She is pretty good at it too.

Paula Yates and Peaches Geldof. Photo from: Lucy Munns Pinterest account
Unfortunately, neither one of this mother/daughter pair is with us anymore. Paula Yates was a famous music journalist and was married to British musician, Bob Geldof. Yates and Geldof had three daughters together, Fifi Trixibelle Geldof, Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof and Little Pixie Geldof. Paula Yates died of a heroin overdose in 2000 and recently her daughter, Peaches Geldof met the same fate. They were both gone way before their time. Peaches was a mother herself to two little boys. Here's to those loving mothers who are no longer with us as well!

Riley Keough, Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley. Photo from: Riley Keough's Tumblr
If you thought a mother/daughter Hollywood duo wasn't enough, don't worry there's actually a trio! Just in case you didn't know, Priscilla Presley was married to the king of rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley. She was an actress back in the 80s and 90s, appearing in the whole Naked Gun film franchise. Of course Priscilla is the mother of the beautiful and talented singer, Lisa Marie Presley. Lisa has certainly carved a place for herself in the music industry, aside from her famous father, both in the USA and abroad. Lisa Marie is a mother to four children herself. She has three daughters, Riley, Finley and Harper and one son Benjamin. Riley is a successful model and actress, having been the face of the Bonds underwear label in Australia for 2013. She has also been in films including, Magic Mike and Mad Max: Fury Road. Three successful women all in one family! Nice work ladies!

Kelly Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne. Photo from: Sharon Osbourne's Facebook page
Sharon Osbourne is the wife of Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy Osbourne. She first shot to real fame after starring alongside her family in the reality television show, The Osbournes. She is currently a presenter on US chat show, The Talk. Naturally, Kelly Osbourne is the daughter of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. She has recorded many hit songs including, Papa Don't Preach and she has been a panelist on E!'s Fashion Police since 2010. Kelly is a very confident and strong woman. No doubt she gets those qualities from Mama Osbourne!

Candy Spelling and Tori Spelling. Photo from: Candy Spelling's Facebook page
Candy Spelling was married to successful television producer, Aaron Spelling. Tori Spelling is of course their daughter. Tori Spelling first shot to fame in the 90s starring in her father's highly successful teen drama, Beverly Hills 90210 as Donna Martin. Candy and Tori may not always see eye to eye, with their reported feuds but at the end of the day it seems they both know that family is very important and it seems that Candy enjoys doting on Tori's children.

So there you have it! A special Mothers Day blog post on celebrity mothers and their famous kids. I hope all the mothers out there had a very happy and enjoyable day! My sister and I bought my mother a gift voucher to get a manicure and a pedicure. We also took her out for lunch so I think she had a fun day. How did you guys celebrate Mothers Day and what did you get your mums? Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed reading this even though it's a bit long and as always feel free to comment, discuss etc.

STARDUST weekly tidbits- May 10

Photo from: Mzjanee Hot's Pinterest account

Here are some of the latest entertainment news headlines this week just in case you missed them!

Jada Pinkett-Smith reacts to daughter's controversial photo
Will Smith's 13-year-old daughter, Willow Smith raised a few eyebrows this week when a photo of her in bed with a topless 20-year-old actor hit Instagram on Tuesday. The young man pictured is Moises Arias, an actor known for his role as Rico on Hannah Montana. The black and white photo shows the teenager lying down on the bed, while Arias who is shirtless is sitting up behind her. Arias deleted the photo after receiving negative comments but the photo had already been shared by other Instagram users.

Arias is friends with Will Smith's 15-year-old son, Jaden. Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith has now commented on her daughter's photo to paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday. "Here's the deal. There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation" she told US Weekly

Hollywood stars shine at the Met Gala
Some of the brightest stars in Hollywood descended on New York City on Monday for the Charles James Beyond Fashion Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year's theme was "White Tie" so the celebrities were wearing lots of 40s and 50s style fashion on the red carpet. Some of the celebrities who got nods of approval by Vogue for their red carpet fashion were Hayden Panettiere in a floral Dennis Basso gown, Selena Gomez in a maroon Diane Von Furstenberg number and Blake Lively in a gold Gucci piece. Pink seemed to be a popular colour of choice this year with Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Swift, Rachel McAdams and Emma Stone all opting for dresses in different shades of pink.

Miley Cyrus resumes Bangerz tour
Miley Cyrus was back on stage at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday after weeks of health issues that forced the 21-year-old singer to postpone several U.S. and European tour dates. During the show on Wednesday Cyrus performed many of her hit songs including, We Can't Stop, Party In The USA and Wrecking Ball. Prior to her performance the pop star made it clear that she did not have a drug overdose. "I didn't have a drug overdose. I took some antibiotics that a doctor gave me for a sinus infection and I had a reaction" she said. In addition to getting back to her tour Cyrus was recently announced as a performer at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, which will be held on Sunday, May 18.

Justin Bieber responds to Seth Rogan comments
Justin Bieber has responded to a few comments that Seth Rogan made about him recently, while promoting his latest film, Bad Neighbours. On Monday Rogan appeared on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show and he recalled a few negative meetings with the pop star. "I've met him a few times. He's a good example of someone who you meet who you think you are going to hate and then you get to hate him as much as you thought" Rogan said. Bieber responded on Twitter "Sorry I didn't bow down when I asked 2 meet you. Was probably a bit shy and didn't want to be over the top but sill love ur movies" the 20-year-old tweeted.

Grinspoon frontman accuses Kylie Minogue of lip syncing
Grinspoon frontman, Phil Jamieson accused Minogue of miming during the coach's opening number on The Voice on Sunday night. "Look the only thing I've got to say about that opening number- I think it was Hall Of Fame they sung- is that Kylie Minogue telling people how to sing live is a little like me coaching the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Like it's a good idea but we've really got no experience in it whatsoever" Jamieson told Triple M's The Grill Team. "I'm pretty sure it was mimed" he continued. As a new coach on The Voice Australia Minogue took to the stage to sing The Script's Hall Of Fame with her fellow coaches Will.I.Am, Ricky Martin and Joel Madden.

Information compiled from: The Daily Telegraph, Entertainment Tonight and On The Red Carpet.

Please feel free to discuss and give your opinions on anything that you've read in my blog! Who were your best dressed picks from the Met Gala?, for those of you who are in Australia like me who has been your favourite contestant on The Voice so far this season? and what do you think of Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am as the new coaches?

My personal favourite dress from the Met Gala was actually Hayden Panettiere's gown. It suited her to a T. I find that a lot of celebrities in her age group tend to rock fashion that makes them look like they are in their 40s instead of their 20s but Hayden's Panettiere's number was age appropriate. The dress looked young and fun but at the same time it was classy and tasteful. What's more important is that the dress looked comfortable to wear! I also loved Blake Lively's and Selena Gomez's dresses.

Gotta say that I think Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am are killing it on the new season of The Voice Australia! I can tell that they are really enthusiastic and passionate to impart their knowledge and experience in the entertainment industry onto these up and coming artists. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed it but I certainly have! This season of The Voice seems to be a lot tougher than the previous two. The standard that the coaches are looking for is a lot higher. I think my favourite contestants so far are Lionel Cole, who is the nephew of musician, Nat King Cole and rap duo, Reece and Tino. Lionel is already a seasoned professional and with his talent I think he could win the whole competition. Reece and Tino have that natural swagger about them and of course they are talented. I'm quite a fan of rap music so I can't wait to hear more of their work.

Australia's own Jessica Mauboy to perform at Eurovision on Saturday

Photo from: Jessica Mauboy's Facebook page

Former Australian Idol star Jessica Mauboy will be representing Australia this week to do a special guest performance at Eurovision.

Copenhagen is definitely a long way from home for the Darwin born singer but Mauboy is keen to show Europe what she's got. "Performing at Eurovision is something I've dreamed of" the 25-year-old tweeted.  Mauboy revealed in an interview on Channel 9's Today Show on Monday that she couldn't believe it when she was invited to perform. "I am nervous! It's one of the biggest stages I've ever been invited to. I'm so proud" she said in the interview.

The Eurovision song contest is broadcast to 180 million viewers in 37 countries. Australians are huge fans of the show. Last year 2.93 million people in Australia tuned in to watch the broadcast. This led the Eurovision committee to invite SBS to select an Australian performer to grace the stage as a guest singer for the contest. SBS's choice was Jessica Mauboy. As a guest performer Mauboy will not be competing against artists from any other countries.

I personally like Jessica Mauboy. It will be interesting to see what Europe thinks of her. I'm really looking forward to hearing what song she will be performing. I watch the Eurovision every year anyway. It is always entertaining to see. Do any of you watch Eurovision as well? If, so which countries are you looking forward to seeing?

Heroin played role in Peaches Geldof's death

Photo from: Joesph Black's Flickr photo stream

The results of British socialite Peaches Geldof's toxicology report shows that she had heroin in her system at the time of her death.

Geldof died of a heroin overdose, echoing the death of her mother Paula Yeats 14 years earlier. An inquest was held yesterday. "Recent use of heroin and and the levels identified were likely to have played a role in her death" Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham said at the inquest.

The 25-year-old was found dead at her family home in Kent last month. At the time no drug paraphernalia was found and police described the death as not suspicious, but there is now speculation that someone may have removed the evidence before their arrival. Geldof was found after her husband was unable to contact her. He then sent a friend over to their house to check if she was okay. Just hours before Geldof was found dead she posted a picture on her Instagram account of herself and her mother with the words "me and my mum".

Geldof's battle with drugs was apparently public knowledge amongst her friends. In 2008 she was seen handing $340 to a known drug dealer and in another incident in the same year she left a drugs shopping list in a London pub. In 2010 the model was dropped from a lucrative contract after pictures surfaced of her naked and high on heroin.

These are a few of my favourite things!

Well I know it's been a while and I know I said I would try and do weekly blog updates but to be honest I have been stressing so much about finishing college and what the next step of my life should be STARDUST was the last thing on my mind. Since finishing college though I've had some new inspiration if you will so here is the blog post that I mentioned a few months ago of some of the different posters that I have up on my bedroom wall so you can all see some of my favourite things in music, television and film.

I can't remember if I mentioned it in my last blog post but I like to have posters around my room of my favourite music artists, television shows and movies. The reason for this is because I personally feel like my room is my sanctuary so I like to be surrounded by pictures that I enjoy. Here is a great tip for posters by the way. Instead of spending money on buying them I bought like a 50 pack of glossy paper and printed out pictures from Google images. My sister thinks it looks tacky but they actually come out in very good quality and it's cheaper so I really don't care if other people think it looks odd. So here are my favourite things...

My favourite movie of all-time is Almost Famous, starring Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. For those of you who haven't already seen the movie it's about a young music journalist, William Miller, who goes on tour with a rock band in the 1970s. I can kind of relate to this film because I have my own aspirations of going into entertainment journalism so I actually find it kind of inspiring to see how William does anything to achieve his dream, which is to get his article published in Rolling Stone magazine. Of course I can't mention Almost Famous without saying how awesome the music in the film is! I don't play any instruments nor can I sing but I have a pretty good ear for good music so I'm a bit of a music buff. That's another reason why I love this film so much! I think my favourite scene in the movie is the one where they're singing Tiny Dancer by Elton John on the bus.

This entertainer needs no introduction. My favourite musical artist is none other than the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! I really can't even begin to describe how much of a fan I am but I'll try (LOL!) Michael Jackson entertained us so well with his singing and dancing. I like a plethora of his songs. My Ipod has more of his music than any other artist. I have over 40 of his songs. Michael Jackson is a true inspiration for me because he went through so much in his life but somehow he managed to pull through it all. He was always very humble and generous even though he was one of the most famous people of our time. My favourite Michael Jackson song is Black Or White because it was the first song of his that I ever heard when I was about three or four years old. This poster of Michael Jackson that is pictured here is right above my bed.

I think everyone in Australia recognises this street sign, right? My favourite television show is Neighbours. I've been watching the show since I was eight years old so that's 18 years now! I try very hard not to miss an episode but you know sometimes it happens. I follow and interact with most of the cast online and have met quite a few past and present Neighbours cast members that's how much of a fan of the show I am. Neighbours has been my constant source of comfort and regularity when I've gone through some of the toughest moments in my life. I owe it so much! I know that might sound silly to some people that I'm so attached to a television show but I'm just being honest.

I am a sucker for sitcoms and I have a fair few that I really like including, Friends, The Nanny and Seinfeld but I think my favourite of them all is Everybody Loves Raymond! I think I've seen every episode about 20 times (but who's counting, right?) I can usually tell what episode of Everybody Loves Raymond is airing within a few seconds of viewing. That's how much I've seen it LOL! Frank is my favourite of the Barone clan. Without his funny catchphrases and quotes to Marie the show would not be nearly as funny.

My favourite celebrity couple of all-time is Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley (see, I told you I am a massive MJ fan!). Even though things obviously didn't work out between the two of them I think they were well suited and Lisa Marie Presly was a very good influence on him.

This picture isn't actually of any poster that I have in my bedroom. It's of my Twitter background and my Facebook cover photo. It is a collage of my top ten musical artists. The yellow guitar, the colourful musical notes and the Hollywood star at the bottom are just for decorative purposes and the quote in the middle is a great quote about music, which I think is true. I made the collage myself. I thought I'd include it so you can see of my other favourites.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post. Keep your eyes peeled to this blog for all the latest entertainment news from STARDUST over the next few days. Feel free to comment, discuss anything!

New year new blog!

So this is my third attempt at starting a successful blog! I have tried a few times but to be perfectly honest it is really hard to find the time to write in it regularly, especially when I have a lot of other commitments to keep on top of like college.  One of my teachers at college once told me that to have a successful blog one should try to post something up every day, or at least weekly so this what I intend to do with STARDUST. My teacher also said that a blog should really be about a specific topic that interests you and in turn others who are also interested in the topic may read and follow it. I guess that's true because then you will have regular readers, rather than readers who wane in and out depending on the topic you're writing about. My previous blogs were about different topics all the time so that's probably one reason why they haven't really worked.

If you haven't seen the blog description already, STARDUST is an entertainment blog. I have hopes of working as an entertainment journalist so the topic was an obvious choice for me. I will be posting all the latest entertainment news from Hollywood, Australia and everywhere in between. Hopefully this time around it'll be better since I'm focusing on one particular subject and will post entries every few days.

Feel free to leave me suggestions, requests and comments on my posts! I want my readers to know some of my favourite things (cue The Sound Of Music song here LOL) so stay tuned for my next blog post when I show you some of the posters that I have on my bedroom wall (I just have to clean my room first, ha!) In the meantime if you want to know a little bit more about me feel free to read my 'About Me' section.
